Registered Device

Purpose

A registered device is a device that is trusted by a user and may signify a more trusted environment. Certain features become available once a device is registered such as:

  • Packing Key Bypass
  • Login restriction to registered device

Some key technical bits:

  • You must log into your account and fully enter your Packing Key Phrase to register the device.
  • Certain information is captured about the device such as the operating system type, browser type, etc... which is uses to identify the device. You could have multiple registered devices on a single computer by simply using Chrome and Firefox as the browsers.
  • A device key is generated and securely stored in your browser's secure storage system. If you completely clean your browser then your device key is permanently lost and you must register the device again.
  • The device key is not available to any other application on your system.

Critical Suggestions

  • Do not enable a shared computer with a single login to be a registered device. Depending on your security posture if you have an individualized account on a shared device then it may be appropriate to register your device in your account.
